Tony Mangurian, Producer/Composer/Musician
Tony’s recent projects include work on the last U2 album “No Line on the Horizon” and writing and producing the music for the new Drew Barrymore Covergirl spot “Lashblast”
Tony Mangurian was raised on Bleecker Street in New York’s Greenwich Village. He attended Music and Art High School (the inspiration of the movie Fame) and the New England Conservatory. Upon returning to New York City, at the urging of Phillip Glass, he studied composition at Mannes School of Music. At the same time he worked as an assistant to the artist Jean Michel Basquiat.
During this time, Tony became more interested in recording and production and released his first record with DJ Mark Kamins (who launched Madonna’s career). During this period he started to work on advertising music. Soon thereafter Tony connected with the band Luscious Jackson and recorded and co-produced their first EP “In Search of Manny” in 1992 and all three of their full length CDs throughout the 90s. Through his connection with the band, he formed a working relationship with legendary producer Daniel Lanois that has continued to the present. That led to his involvement on Bob Dylan’s Grammy-award winning album “Time Out of Mind” as well as Willie Nelson’s “Teatro” and Mr. Lanois’ own album “Shine”.
In 1997, Tony landed the Cover Girl account writing the jingle for “Easy Breezy Beautiful Covergirl” and has produced most of the music for the brand’s advertising to date. This included working with acclaimed performers Faith Hill, Brandy, Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa, Q-Tip and Ziggy Marley.
In 2001, Tony produced the groundbreaking Chris Whitley album “Rocket House” for Dave Matthews’ label ATO Records. Tony has also done session work for many artists including Sinead O’Connor, Dido, Sheryl Crow, Patti Scialfa and Johnny Lang.
Recently, Tony has done production work on U2’s 2009 record as well as directing two music videos for the artist Vasi and recording two albums of his own original music “Pretty Tony” and “TM Piano”
